Why should we ban guns, you ask? Why wouldnt we, you ask? Banning guns has been the talk of the news for the past couple of months. This problem has become a huge deal to many people lately. More and more people are starting to own guns because of protection and to feel safe. The problem is people are willing to kill other people if they were to break into their house or steal something from them. The big problem here is you shouldnt have to kill someone to make them stop, unless they have another gun and they are shooting back. This is where the gun problem gets out of hand. People overuse guns. Some people are just clueless and dont realize how much power they have in their hands. Families like to have guns because they like to feel safe and protected. What they dont realize is that a gun can probably end up getting one of your family members killed by accident. Guns kept in the home for self-protection are 43 times more likely to kill a family member, or friend, than the person trying to break in. In conclusion, guns should be banned from people who do not know how to use them. Or better yet, dont need them. Too many people are being killed because of stupid and crazy people.
On Fathers Day, I am painfully reminded that my son is no longer with me. Since my son Nick Leath passed away October 10, 1997, the special day when that bond is celebrated is especially hard to bear. However, it is a time when I also think of my son, the wonderful memories we had together, and the legacy he left behind. After passing away Nick was able to be a donor and help three people get a second chance to live thanks to the gift of life.In another home, a person who would have not been there if it was not for our Nick is maybe enjoying this day. Not only did that person get their life back, maybe their fathers can hug them, look into their eyes and laugh with them on such an occasion.A New York family will be celebrating Fathers Day once again this year thanks to Nicks gift of life. In addition, we hope the remaining two recipients here in Southern California and Tennessee will also enjoy their special day with family and friends. This Fathers Day, when households all across the nation celebrate the important place a father has in a familys heart, please consider extending that love to others. By registering as a donor at the DMV or www.donatelifecalifornia.org you will give hope to many people who are in need, people who also want to spend many more Fathers Days close to their loved ones.Harriet LeathTustin, CA
