Friday, July 18th, 2008. Issue 29, Volume 12. I read the article "Riverside County wilderness bill approved by House" [Valley News, 6/13/08] and was greatly pleased with the current progress of the California Desert and Mountain Heritage Act (HR 3682). I feel the expanse of wilderness protection this Act would provide is an important stepping stone toward preserving California’s scenic wilderness for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. I am a strong supporter of protecting wildlife habitat and believe this legislation would provide a place of safety for diverse plant and animal species. Without this security I fear these unique species will one day be lost. I also personally enjoy hiking in these areas to observe wildlife and to see the beauty of nature up close. Each visit to these wilderness areas is a unique experience, some quiet and peaceful presenting time for reflection and thoughts, others exciting and different leaving another memory to look back on. As a student, I am grateful for the efforts to protect California’s wilderness and the ability to travel to these wilderness areas to continue learning more about our environment. Our efforts to protect our environment today will provide future generations the opportunity to enjoy these wilderness areas. I sincerely value the efforts of all those involved in the progress of the California Desert and Mountain Heritage Act.
