"Conflict, Unity and Love: The TKF Story," an Emmy Award-winning documentary produced by local filmmaker Ken Kebow, will have its first big screen premiere at the Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (TVIFF).

‘The TKF Story’ began in San Diego on the tragic evening of January 21, 1995, when 20-year-old San Diego State University student Tariq Khamisa was shot and killed by a 14-year-old gang recruit while delivering pizzas.

His assailant, Tony Hicks, fired the fatal bullet on orders from an 18-year-old gang leader.

To honor his son’s life and find meaning in his death, Azim Khamisa established the Tariq Khamisa Foundation (TKF) in October 1995.

Remarkably, Azim, an international businessman, reached out in forgiveness to Ples Felix, the grandfather and guardian of Tony Hicks.

Ples, a manager for the City of San Diego, joined with Azim in dedicating their lives to ending the plague of youth violence in America.

Together through TKF’s Violence Impact Forum, they have spoken to tens of thousands of schoolchildren about the "power of forgiveness" to break the cycle of violence.

"Conflict, Unity and Love" will be shown with the film "My Mother’s Garden" on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. during TVIFF at the Movie Experience at Tower Plaza in Temecula. For more information, visit www.tviff.com.
