Thursday, May 12th, 2005. Issue 19, Volume 9. Our bags were packed and it was time to begin our journey to Victoria, Canada. The route we chose was Highway 1 driving north along California’s amazing coast line. We were absorbed in an abundance of nature rich in a coastal design. Rock water, sky, bush, green carpets of grass with bouquets of wild flowers in all colors of the rainbow were scattered along the route. The magnificent Pacific Ocean seemed to move with us as we journeyed towards our northern destination as the waves continued to crash on pristine beaches. We also had an opportunity to view the Redwoods, silently gliding down the path of the "Avenue of the Giants," which reflected a dignified message of history. The journey continued through Oregon and Washington, as great forests greeted us, which resembled huge billowing clouds that quivered in the mild spring breeze. Nested in the enchanting Olympic Peninsula, between Port Angeles and Sequim, we came upon an historic century-old barn which houses the boutique winery Olympic Cellars. This winery is unique in this part of the world and is woman-owned and operated. The winery will expand into the California market for the first time Advertisement Since 2003, these award-winning, everyday wines for everyday friends - Working Girl White, Go Girl Red and Rosé the Riveter - have been marketed in Washington state as a salute to working women everywhere. Working Girl wines are "drinkable, approachable and fun", said Kathy Charlton, owner of Olympic Cellars. "Our wines are created by women for women in support of women." I met with Molly Rivard, who is the Tasting Room Manager, and Libby Sweetser, the Event Coordinator Manager, who explained their innovative community partnership "Olympic Cellars 2 X Success™." "The winery is putting a new twist on philanthropic giving, and invites non-profit organizations a sustainable source of outside funding in return for committed volunteer hours during the winery’s most work-intensive times of the year. The program presents a win/win solution for both donor and recipient and can be applied to most any small business." For more detailed information, contact Kathy@olympiccellars.com or deborahblack@wavecable.com. Until next week from somewhere on our adventurous road trip, take care and enjoy life! CHEERS!
