Deputies deploy Taser against knife-wielding suspect in Lake Elsinore

Last updated 6/22/2018 at 3:32pm

Deputies on Friday used an electric stun gun against a knife-brandishing Lake Elsinore man suspected of violating a domestic violence restraining order, sheriff's officials said.

Authorities say they went to 62-year-old Richard Belville's home in the 300 block of Main Street to arrest him for the alleged restraining order violation. They say Belville first tried to shut the front door to his home before grabbing a hunting style knife and moving toward the deputies in a threatening manner.

A deputy, "immediately reacted by deploying a TASER, which was effective in stopping Richard and allowed the officers to take him into custody without any significant injuries or further escalation."

Belville was booked into the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of assault on a peace officer as well as the domestic violence-related count.

Sheriff's officials asked anyone with information on the case to contact the Elsinore Sheriff’s Station by calling (951) 245-3300.
