Cheflavor in Temecula boasts menu filled with flavorful sandwiches

Cheflavor's grilled three cheese sandwich comes with a side of potato salad, chips or salad.

There was a crisp breeze in the air, a sunny blue sky overhead and music from The Strokes within earshot as I sat on Cheflavor Curated Provisions' patio in Temecula last week; it was the perfect setting to take a break and enjoy a nice meal.

I've been to Cheflavor, located in the Vail Ranch Headquarters, a couple of times before. The specialty shop offers a wide variety of barbecue rubs, honeys, artisan cheeses and a rare selection of craft beers from San Diego, Riverside and Orange counties.

What I didn't know until more recently is that the business also serves food. It's menu offers cheese and charcuterie plates as well as a selection of sandwiches. I found this information out while surfing through social media and coming across a picture of a sandwich that looked way too good.

On my designated cheat day, I decided I would give Cheflavor's food menu a shot. I looked through their offerings on a board outside the store, which included an Italian muffaletta ($13), a patty melt ($13), and a Santa Maria Red Oak pulled pork sandwich ($12).

I settled on the grilled three cheese sandwich, which came with cheddar, provolone and Gruyere cheese with a garlic aioli on ciabatta bread ($10). All sandwiches come with the choice of salad, chips or smoked potato salad; I went the potato salad.

I ordered with a friendly store employee and took a seat outside on the patio to enjoy the nice day. I wasn't the only customer enjoying the pleasant weather.

In a patch of grass nearby, a mother played with her two young children. Several people ambled from store to store in the shopping center.

After listening to some indie rock songs and people watching for a few minutes, my grilled cheese sandwich came out. The sight of golden, molten cheese and crispy ciabatta bread told me I was in for something really good – and it was.

Though there are several tables inside, Cheflavor's patio is a great place to enjoy a meal, especially on a day when the weather is nice.

The cheese was melted just the right amount, and the garlic aioli accentuated the sandwich rather than overpowering it. The potato salad had a definite smoky flavor and was very rich.

Those wondering about Cheflavor's other sandwiches need only turn to Yelp, where reviews rave about the other offerings. One reviewer said the pulled pork sandwich was the closest thing they had had to North Carolina pulled pork.

I found myself quickly filling up on the food and felt that I had made the right choice in ordering the grilled cheese. I'll have to come back sometime, maybe on another cheat day.

Cheflavor is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday and closed Monday.
