UPDATE: Vegetation fire in Anza reaches 75 percent containment

UPDATE: JULY 4, 7:45 p.m.

The Benton Fire is now at 75 percent containment and all aircraft have been released, according to fire officials with the Riverside County Fire Department.

UPDATE: July 4, 6:30 p.m.

A vegetation fire that broke out near Anza earlier this afternoon is now at 50 percent containment, according to Riverside County Fire Department officials.

The "Benton fire," which was first reported at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, quickly charred 63 acres at Benton Road and Crams Corner Drive in Anza.

Currently 120 firefighters, five air tankers and four helicopters are battling the blaze.

According to Hagemann, the first firefighters to arrive encountered a well-established column of smoke.

The U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire San Diego are assisting in the fight.

A vegetation fire, reported at 2:20 p.m. Wednesdaty, July 4, is burning at a "critical rate," according to fire officials with the Riverside County Fire Department.

The blaze, which is at Benton Road and Crams Corner Drive in Anza, has charred at least 50 acres, an incident report issued by department spokeswoman Jodi Hagemann said.

Currently 120 firefighters, five air tankers and four helicopters are battling the blaze.

According to Hagemann, the first firefighters to arrive encountered a well-established column of smoke.

The U.S. Forest Service and Cal Fire San Diego are assisting in the fight.
