On October 3, the formal cutting of a red ribbon was the official signal by the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation that the Santa Margarita County Preserve is now officially open.

Members of the public were able to hike a two-and-a-half-mile trail that offers scenic views of the Santa Margarita River. By following the trail, hikers can connect to existing paths on Fallbrook Public Utility District land.

In addition, the first official equestrian staging area was opened in Fallbrook.

Species Conservation Program," said County Supervisor Bill Horn, who represents District 5. "Our strong partnerships and strategic planning have provided an opportunity for the public to enjoy our region’s natural resources, while continuing our efforts to preserve them."

The park is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. until 30 minutes before sunset. The preserve is closed during heavy rain to protect the public and natural resources. Fishing in the river is not permitted.

The county acquired the 173-acre preserve in 1992 to add to the future North County Multiple Species Conservation Program.

The horse in the Trailer taken by Paul reminds me of a horse I once had in San Luis Obispo that I named "Wild Fire". I love horses and love songs about the range. My father had a ranch home next to the ocean in San Luis Obispo that he purchased after leaving Manzinar in the early 1940's.
