Gone but not forgotten - Trail to immortalize Wildomar citizens

Though they have passed on, some Wildomar residents will never be forgotten. Butterfield Multi-use Trails, Inc. is designing a new trail in Wildomar to honor late residents who have left a mark on the city.

The Lance Cpl. Justin T. Hunt Memorial Trail is named after a slain serviceman from Wildomar. "Justin was a neighbor of mine," said Gary Andre, the chairman of Butterfield Multi-use Trails, Inc. "He was a great, little, inquisitive boy."

A monument will stand at the entrance of the trail and bear the names of deceased Wildomar residents. The acid-washed monument will stand 5 feet tall, weigh more than 1,500 pounds and hold plaques bearing the names of other notable deceased Wildomar residents.

be commemorated with a plaque on the monument.

"He was born here and played all-star Little League," said Tina White, Keaton’s mother. "I’m just glad Keaton gets to be a part of [this monument]."

Wildomar needs more trails, said Andre.

"Kids are walking on the side of the road, next to the white line. That’s not good," he said.

The new trail will give children a safe passage through the neighborhood away from the road.

In addition to helping students get to school safely, trails benefit local home owners. "It increases property values by nine percent," he said.

Butterfield Multi-use Trails, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that advises developers on trail development.

Andre is in the process of arranging the location of ends of the trail, but it will wind through the Ranch Community in Wildomar, near Central Avenue and Palomar Street.
