Citizens For Democracy to hold discussion

The public is invited to participate in a discussion of the ideas presented in President-elect Obama’s Inaugural Address and how as a community we can contribute to the development and implementation of his proposals.

This discussion will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Mary Phillips Center in Temecula beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Citizens For Democracy, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to enhancing the democratic process, will host the discussion.

Benoit introduces Good Samaritan Protection Act

State Senator John J. Benoit (R-Bermuda Dunes) recently announced that he has been recognized as an Outstanding Legislator Advertisement

of 2008 by the California State Sheriffs’ Association.

Benoit followed the announcement by introducing legislation (SB 39) to protect Good Samaritans from legal liability, in response to a California Supreme Court ruling made in December.

Benoit’s bill comes at a critical time, just weeks after the Court, in a 4-3 ruling, uncovered a significant shortfall in legal protections for Good Samaritans.

The Good Samaritan Protection Act would amend the Health and Safety Code to clarify the Legislature’s 1980 "Good Samaritan Law" to correct the Supreme Court’s interpretation, thus indemnifying all persons rendering all forms of emergency care, not just emergency medical care, from liability of civil damages.
