At about 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, officers responded to a major injury collision in the area of Bundy Canyon and Monte Vista in Wildomar.

According to a press release, two vehicles had collided head-on. One of the involved motorists, Michael Stone, 18, of Temecula, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates a red Chevy S-10, driven by Cory Tavares, 19, of Menifee, was traveling east on Bundy Canyon.

The Chevy reportedly drifted left of the center lines and collided with a silver Toyota Corolla which was traveling westbound and occupied by four teens.

Stone, the driver of the Toyota, was killed.

The remaining passengers in the Toyota – two girls, ages 16 and 17, and a 16-year-old boy – were transported to an area hospital for treatment of various injuries.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is requested to contact Deputy Steven Jimenez of the Lake Elsinore Police Department at (951) 245-3300.

one of the girls that was sitting in the middle of the backseat. Is in critical condition. She has suffered a broken back and severe injuries from the lap belt.
They still have her under for further surgeries & internal injuries.
I was just hanging out with her on the 1st of january.
what a shame I'm praying for her!

THIS IS ABSOLUTLY AWFUL... MICHEAL WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON.. HE DID NOT DESERVE THIS TO HAPPEN TO HIM ONLY 18.. I PREY FOR THE OTHERS THAT WERE IN THE CAR THAT THEY RECOVER FROM THERE INJURIES..I HOPE AND PREY FOR EVERYONES FAMILIES TO GET THROUGH THIS TRAGIC TIME..

I THINK THAT BUNDY CANYON ROAD SHOULD BE WIDER, HAVE STOP LIGHTS AND MORE STREET LIGHTS SO PEOPLE WOULD BE MORE ALERT COMING DOWN A LONG DARK ROAD...
MAYBE THIS WOULD HAVE KEPT CORY MORE AWARE OF THINGS IN HIS SURROUNDINGS AND THIS WOULD HAVE GAVEN MICHEAL A CHANCE TO BE ABLE TO MENUVER AROUND MORE IF THE STREET WAS WIDER TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT!! THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS FOR ACCIDENTS/FATALITIES ON BUNDY CANYON ROAD OR SHOULD I SAY HWY?
HOW MANY MORE ACCIDENTS HAVE TO HAPPEN BEFORE THINGS GET DONE TO BUNDY CANYON??
DEEPEST BLESSINGS TO ALL XOXO

I still cant believe that this has happend! Michael was such a great guy and he did not deserve any of this. All of the kids in the car are good kids. This tragedy is horrible and should have never happened. Cory should have made better choices when driving that car, and none of this would have happened. There have been rumors that he was drinking, on drugs and even just leaning over to pick something up. what ever he was doing could have been prevented through better judgement. One of the girls who was in the car is doing much better and she is up and about again and her injuries are healing. the boy who was in the car is doing fine and thankfully god out of the car with no serious physical injuries. Unfortunately he has to suffer the fact that he was councious while he saw his friends suffer. The other girl in the car is still in ICU and has some serious injuries to her spine, legs, ribs etc. She is going to be ok but it will take her about the Minimum of a year to recover. All of them are extremely strong. It makes me so sad how the people you love can be taken from you in the blink of an eye. My prayers go out to the victims and families of the victims of this terrible crash!!!! I hope that justice can be found for the michael and the rest Stone family as well as his friends and Cory can be put in jail.

Why would you say I hope justice is found and Cory be put in jail. If this was your son who made a poor judgment call on a bad street would you say that? This could be any of our kids. I think you probably make poor judgment everyday while drive and get lucky, as do I. We all multi task because we are mom's. This is an accident... that's why it's called an accident. Nobody sets out to have such a tragic thing happen. Come on he's 19. And the other 4 were heading to a Winter Dance hopefully they weren't doing anything prior to heading to the dance, just because their Christian doesn't mean they don't have poor judgment their teenagers. It is very sad for all and would know that if you are any kind of human being

Excuse.........
4 families lives have forever been altered as a result of one careless persons actions. Drugs, alcohol, or irresposible driving; for you to reverse the blame on the 4 kids CORY struck is idiotic at best. These kids are merely victims! They are 4 great kids raised by caring loving families. While you seem to make excuses for Cory the simple fact remains he was a direct cause for alot of UNDUE pain and suffering! If he had been a responsible driver this accident would never have happened. While the was an "accident" it could have and should have been avoided. If Cory would have behaved like a responsible adult and not used a weapon (his car) we wouldnt have this converstion now would we? So.....stop making excuses and have respect for the victims...TONS AND TONS of respct!

look at corys lifestyle..if you look at his myspace and read the stuff he puts on there...can you honestly tell me he is an innocent kid? Before you even think of backing him up go to his myspace and tell me then what you think..but before that dont even think of answering back to me..it makes me sick to hear someone backing him up when he drinks, smokes, and does drugs. I am truely disgusted just by thinking of Cory he isnt an innocent kid at all. Hes far from it and to say something like hoping the kids in the car didnt do anything prior i find it hilarious that you have to think that.. these kids are the most amazing kids they are kind and smart they wouldnt make any stupid decisions like that. Unlike Cory they actually have a life that is going somehwere so its ok if cory is put in jail cause hes a loser who has no life expect drugs and alchohol

Yes excuse i hope cory is put in jail because look at his lifestyle! he is the kind of guy who needs to be put away. You need to respect that these 4 families have been tramatized and their lives have been forever changed so show some respect to these families. And NO these kids werent drinking there really good kids and all they wanted to do was go have fun at this dance. Why would you even think these kids were doing something prior to it. Just because cory was stupid doesnt mean you have to try to pin this on the 4 innocent kids. Just accept the fact cory was stupid and consequences will be made. And for the other 3 kids that were injured in the car i hope justice is made and you all are very strong kids and just continue fighting. Im sorry that this happened just know everyone wants justice to be made and that they are praying for you. Michael was an amazing kid and he will be dearly missed

This is a very small town how could you say something about those kids. Don't you think that they can read. You have no heart nor do you really understand THE BIG PICTURE!! Someones life was taken and those kids lives have been changed 4 ever ( THEY ARE THE VICTIMS) and YES Cory did do that AND thats the fact. Please... I pray for you and anyone that feels they need to focus on Cory. If you are a true human being yourself you would have not tried to put blame on those 4 kids. Show the families some respect!

EXCUSE.....
It sickens me the lack of parenting by Cory's family, what goes on in a family's home when the parents are unawhere of their childs myspace, when virtually anyone can view, and the parents have no clue?? I pray everyday for these 4 family's, and justice will come!!!

I cant couldnt believe it, and I was there to witness this fatality. I'm seventeen and have neevr experienced anything like that before, this tragedy has left me at a lost for words. Although I'm scarred and didn't know the kids, I still go down the street to the scene and pay my respects. No one, under any circumstance deserves to die otherthan of natural cause. Besides, Bundy Canyon rd, is a very dangerous, narrow and very confusing road and especially at night. They MUST do something, 2 days after that accident another 3 car accident happened. But anyway, my heart and prayers go out to the victims family and friends. Contact me if you'd like, my msn is ayel3oi@live.com, same for my myspace and aim is ayel3oi

This was truly a tragedy. One person's disregard for the law and other peoples' lives ended the life of an exceptional young man who was loved by everyone that met him. A young lady's life will never be the same and 4 families have to live with the consequence of Cory's lifestyle. Even his friends said that this was bound to happen some day. I pray that justice will be served and that this should be an example to other young people that you have to accept responsibility for your choice of lifestyle.

Im appalled by some of these comments. Cory has been in trouble on and off for years...these kids were on their way to a DANCE. They were innocent victims. The OTHER car swerved in to their Lane. Do you know how to read?? I mourn the loss of this young man that we all watched grow up. I fee pain and pity for Corys parents. To know your son is repsonsible is ruining their lives as well, but...they still have their son now dont they?

Corey was stoned out of his mind and is now in jail for 15 years with shattered legs and a permanent limp. Justice? Maybe, but a tragedy all around. I hope he learns and tries to do something positive when he gets out. Nothing will ever aswage the grief he has wrought.

Wow did somebody just say to forgive and forget in this situation. If my son was killed I would not forgive and I certainly would not forget.

Everyone lost, But if I remember right Lemons had no idea he was going to die the night we talked befor he went to the prom. The guy that killed him will have to live, YES LIVE with that for the rest of his life. ""Forgiveness"" some do and some will never thats the way "" life "" goes for the one that must LIVE it. People make choices and he made his when he got behind the truck.
