Free tax prep services offered

Friday, February 6th, 2009
Issue 06, Volume 13.

Families with household incomes of less than $45,000 are invited to receive free tax preparation services being provided by Community Action Partnership of Riverside County.

IRS-certified tax preparers will prepare and file tax returns for low-income taxpayers, taking advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

EITC is a refundable federal tax credit for working families who earn less than $41,646 a year. This credit helps reduce the tax burden on low- and moderate-income families.

Fourteen sites throughout Riverside County will provide weekend and evening hours and will have bilingual volunteers to assist taxpayers.

Families who have their returns e-filed can receive their direct deposit refunds within seven to 10 days.

Free tax preparation will be offered at these sites through April 11.

Based on earnings and family situation, taxpayers can receive up to $4,700 in Earned Income Tax Credit refunds.

Families may also qualify for other tax credits, including the Child Tax Credit, Advertisement

which can reduce a family’s tax liability by up to $1,000 per child.

Also, refunds may be split and directly deposited into up to three different bank accounts.

General financial services and other resource information are also available at the sites.

For more information, including sites’ specific addresses and times of operation as well as mobile unit hours, contact Community Action Partnership of Riverside County at (951) 955-4900 or (800) 511-1110.
