The Voodoo Glow Skulls will be playing in Lake Elsinore to benefit the family of a local FMX champion who died last month.

On March 28 at the Trevi Entertainment Center in Lake Elsinore, the Voodoo Glow Skulls will headline an all-day punk, ska and rockabilly show as part of a fund raising event.

The proceeds of the event will go to the Athlete Recovery Fund, non-profit organization that provides financial support for FMX, BMX and skateboarding professionals burdened by career-hampering injuries.

The organization has set up a trust to help Lusk’s widow deal with the financial hardships she now faces after her husband’s unexpected death.

"There’s a lot of financial stuff to be dealt with," said Aaron Cooke, the executive director of ARF.

He hesitated to go into details, but said Lusk’s widow, Lauren Lusk, was facing difficulty. The couple relied solely on the man’s income as a professional freestyle motocross competitor.

"It wasn’t like he had been putting a bunch of money aside for years and years," Cooke said.

Nonetheless, both the community in Lusk’s hometown, Temecula, and the widespread FMX community have lightened the financial burden on Lusk’s family and wife, he said.

"The outpouring of support has been amazing," Cooke said.

Lusk died on Feb. 7 during a competition in Costa Rica. Because he died so far from his home, the family had to travel to Costa Rica make arrangements to bring his body back to California.

"There were some obstacles, like cost," said Cooke. So ARF paid for the family’s plane tickets and hotel costs.

Organizers of the upcoming fund-raising event had already been putting together a concert when they heard of Lusk’s widow’s plight.

event, according to Ivan McClain, head of Ivan Promotions and one of the organizers of the event.

"After the Jeremy Lusk [accident] happened we decided it would be a good thing to donate the proceeds to ARF," McClain said.

Because the average person attending the planned concert would have been young, dedicating the event to Lusk’s memory is appropriate, McClain said.

"All the riders have been a heavy influence on the [local] youth," McClain said.

The event will also feature performances by Ryan Mudd and the Stuff, No Dice, Ready for Vegas, Strike 12, Unit F, DeFunkeD, Seenless, Kirby and the Hellraisers, Skamikaze! and A Simple Ending.

The performances will take place from 2 to 10 p.m. At then thirty, the event will continue from 10:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. featuring DJ artists Joy Basan and hip-hop artists J King E, So-Cal Trash and Sticky C.

In addition, Mike "Lunchbox" Dillinger of Q103.3 KTMOQ will host "The Ladies of Dirt Alliance 2009 Model Search Contest," a beauty contest that will take place periodically between the musical performances.

Booths will be selling extreme sports merchandise, a silent auction to benefit the Lusk fund will take place and special guests will be talking about Lusk.

Though the City of Lake Elsinore recently ordered the Trevi Entertainment Center to stop holding live music performance that are open to the public, the city is allowing this event because it benefits a non-profit organization, McClain said.

It is tragic yes. If he were not doing as dangerous a "job" it never would have happened. What I mean is the odds were never in his favor, how could you choose a love of speed and danger over your family. Ooops once again fate wins. Cheat fate only so many times and them WHAM it kicks you in the butt. He will be missed but at least his family will hear how great he was on the bike. Conciliation? ask his family next Christmas, I think not.

You must enjoy your desk job, that's good for you. It's almost Monday. Jeremy was a good person who sadly passed doing exactly what he and his family loved doing. Go back to your stacks of paper and leave those of us who do what we have a passion for alone, this Christmas we will all remember his free spirit and determination to be himself and earn a living for his family. Godspeed jeremy.
