Tuesday, May 5th, 2009. Issue 19, Volume 9. Story Last Updated : May 4th. MURRIETA - A Homeland man accused of driving drunk and causing a 2008 crash that killed a Perris woman and seriously injured her two daughters -- one of whom remained in a vegetative state until dying in January -- was ordered today to stand trial for manslaughter. Mark Davis Julian, 31, had been free on his own recognizance, but following a preliminary hearing that began Monday afternoon and concluded today, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Timothy Freer ordered that Julian be jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. Julian was immediately taken into custody. A May 26 arraignment was set. Julian, a contractor, is charged with two counts of DUI gross vehicular manslaughter and two counts of DUI with injury, with allegations of inflicting great bodily injury, great bodily injury causing paralysis or a comatose condition and having multiple victims. He faces a maximum of 18 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Terri Keller-Houle, 36, was killed in the May 13, 2008, crash. Her younger daughter, Amanda Keller, who was 10 years old at the time, remained in a vegetative state for months from a massive head injury suffered when she was nearly ejected from her mother's sport utility vehicle. Keller-Houle's older daughter, Alexis Keller, 15, was ejected from the SUV and Advertisement She has recovered from her injuries. California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Parent testified during the hearing that Amanda Keller was sitting beside her mother in their red Excursion as they picked up Alexis from volleyball practice about 5 p.m. As Keller-Houle drove to the intersection of Briggs Road and state Route 74, she had a green light and entered the intersection, Parent said. The SUV was broadsided by a large, lifted work truck traveling at full speed through the red light on SR74, the officer said. Keller-Houle was killed instantly. Though Amanda was wearing a seat belt, she was almost ejected as the SUV spun 180 degrees counterclockwise, Parent said. Amanda suffered a massive head injury and died in January, according to testimony by district attorney Investigator Maureen Filley. "This was a severe blunt force trauma death," Bouffard said outside court. Alexis, who was also wearing a seat belt, was ejected anyway, Parent said. Testing on Julian determined that a little more than two hours after the crash his blood-alcohol level was 0.10 percent. The legal limit is 0.08. CHP Officer Mark Vonvoigt testified that Julian seemed intoxicated following the crash but repeatedly denied drinking alcohol.
