FALLBROOK — There are only three days left to see the 13th Annual National Gourd & Fiber Fine Art Show at the Fallbrook Art Center, as the show ends on Sunday, June 28. This nationally recognized fine gourd art show shows how a humble gourd can be evolved into a true work of art.

Once used as water carriers and ceremonial vessels, gourds are taken to a higher level at the 13th Annual National Gourd & Fiber Fine Art Show, open now through June 28 at the Fallbrook Art Center (FAC) at the corner of Main Avenue and Alvarado Street.

"Fine gourd art is finally coming into its own," said Mary Perhacs, FAC executive director. "It’s amazing that simple gourds can be transformed into fascinating works of art as well as functional objects and jewelry."

The show this year was expanded to include fiber art such as basketry, weavings, quilts and large-scale wall hangings.

It has attracted 24 artists from all over the Western United States to Fallbrook, which is nationally recognized as a gourd-growing destination and center for the fine arts.

Pieces on exhibit can incorporate carving, coiling, decoupage, dying, lashing, painting, weaving, wood burning and polymer clay.

Gourds are embellished with acrylic paints, gold-leaf, dyes and waxes to accessories such as bone, cane, coins, eucalyptus pods, feathers, glass beads, hemp twine, leather, leaves, Pakistani grass, palm fronds, pine needles, raffia and shells.

The show is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. and from 12 to 3 p.m. on Sundays. General admission is $5; FAC members, active military and children under 18 are free. The Fallbrook Art Center is located at the corner of Main Avenue and Alvarado Street.

This art show is really nice. It's one of my favorites along with the blown glass show that is in July.
It's nice to be able to see a quality art show and then enjoy a nice lunch at Cafe des artists behind the art center.
