We spend 90 percent of our lifetime indoors breathing harsh chemicals emitted by furniture, paints, fabrics, adhesives and flooring materials. Through my years of design experience, I am seeing the need to green the home through professional designing.

As energy costs are climbing and population is booming, it makes since to be responsible with our designs.

Luckily, we don’t have to be rocket scientists to bring green ideas to our lovely décor.

During a cocktail party or special occasion at home, use smaller wattage lamps to create efficient ambiance to your special evening.

Maybe add a few candles to bring more warmth to your décor and fabrics. This will enhance the mood of the space and help your home accents to look their best.

Also, try placing a small decorative lamp with a 15- to 30-watt bulb in your powder room.

This will provide just enough lighting for your guests without burning all of your bright bathroom fixtures all night long. Even if the lamp is left on the whole evening, it Advertisement
is still a greener option.

When purchasing new accessories and furniture, try to choose items manufactured locally/regionally. This will cut down on shipping costs and fuels used to transport such furnishings. At the same time, you will be helping your local economy.

Instead of using man-made fabrics and those with plastic fibers, consider natural fabrics such as cotton, wool and silk. These come in multiple weaves and styles that will be just as durable for window treatments and accent pillows.

Most manufacturers now have green options that are either recyclable or contain high percentages of recycled material.

Don’t jump to conclusions; while they are still on the cutting edge, many of these fabrics feel amazing and have gorgeous pattern availabilities.

As a design studio, we work closely with local manufacturers, green products and accessories. Our professional design staff can help you find sustainable solutions and designs on a green dime.

Even better than recycling; Save money and the Earth and be clean at the same time...yes! Get serious and add Bathroom Bidet Sprayers to all your bathrooms. Available at www.bathroomsprayers.com with these you won't even need toilet paper any more, just a towel to dry off! It's cheap and can be installed without a plumber; and runs off the same water line to your toilet. You'll probably pay for it in a few months of toilet paper savings. And after using one of these you won't know how you lasted all those years with wadded up handfuls of toilet paper. Now we're talking green and helping the environment without any pain. As for water use a drought is always a concern and must be dealt with prudently but please remember that in the big picture the industrial water users always far exceed the water use of household users and in the case of toilet paper manufacture it is huge. The pollution and significant power use from that manufacturing process also contributes to global warming so switching to a hand bidet sprayer and lowering your toilet paper use is very green in multiple ways.
