Wednesday, July 1st, 2009. Issue 27, Volume 9. MURRIETA - A man who allegedly shot the mother of his 5-year-old daughter and then abducted the girl from her Temecula home must stand trial on kidnapping, attempted murder and other charges, a judge ruled Tuesday. Riverside County Superior Court Judge Dennis McConaghy ruled there was enough evidence to bound Jesus Alcala -- also known as Jose Cardona -- over for trial, though he did dismiss a burglary count. In addition to kidnapping and attempted murder, Alcala faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with a gun, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and allegations of great bodily injury and gun use. The judge ordered the 37-year-old defendant back to court on July 14 for arraignment. About 4 a.m. last Aug. 23, Alcala broke into the bedroom of his estranged wife's home and shot the woman in the stomach, then took his daughter and left. Alcala had supervised visitation rights, but the girl's mother had full custody of the child, according to authorities. The youngster was found about 12 hours later, safe and with family friends in Central California. Alcala was located at a nearby restaurant, police said. The woman survived her injuries.
