Students of all ages performed in the June showcase given by the Murrieta Academy of Music on June 7 at the Murrieta Community Center.

This year more than 100 performers took the stage in a series of mini-concerts scheduled throughout the day.

The audience was treated to everything from flute to guitar, voice to drums, violin to piano and more. Many students performed as soloists but there were also duos, trios and full rock bands performing at the event.

A variety of styles were on display. On the classical side were performances including Rachmaninoff’s "Raindrop Prelude in D-flat" by Chris Howell of Murrieta.

Colton Finley and his instructor, Michael Radliff, did a duet covering the Advertisement
jazz standard "The Girl from Ipanema."

On the rock side of things, there were performances of Metallica’s "One," the Eagles’ "Hotel California" and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s "Texas Flood," to name a few.

Admission price to the event was a canned food donation for the Community Food Pantry of Murrieta.

Upcoming academy events include a "Rock Starz Workshop" performance in September, an outdoor concert in October and another indoor showcase in December.

Coming this fall will be the grand opening of the Academy of Performing Arts, where the focus will be on drama, musical theater and preschool arts programs.
