The city of Menifee continued its annual tradition of celebrating the Fourth of July a week early this past Saturday, much to the delight of local residents and attendees.

An open party was held at Wheatfield Park on Menifee Road from around 5 to 9 p.m.

The event featured attractions such as a laser tag field, flag football and a helicopter demonstration courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and concluded the evening with a small fireworks show.

"I think it’s great that they put this on every year," said local resident Bill Gilmore. "It’s nice to have a fun, safe place for the community to gather and celebrate."

The city of Menifee has traditionally held their local celebration of the nation’s birthday earlier to avoid competition with other major productions in the area.

The parties, which have been held every year for the past decade, provide a great opportunity for families to celebrate in a fun, close-knit environment.

"We get a kick out of this every year," said David Wooding, 17, a student who has been attending the celebrations for eight years. "It’s great to know that someone cared enough to organize this, even if Advertisement
it only lasts for a few hours."

A number of Menifee police were on hand at the celebration to make sure no one got out of control as well as to help direct traffic and protect pedestrians after the celebration had concluded.

"It’s nice to know that we can have fun without worrying about the possible dangers that are associated with events like these," said Wooding.

In addition to the main event, a number of families in the surrounding neighborhood held backyard barbecues and enjoyed the fireworks from the comfort of their homes.

Other locals took the opportunity to take a walk to the park and enjoy the atmosphere of the evening.

Children at the park were treated to a game zone, complete with a bouncy house and face-painting booths, while parents were able to relax and revel in the celebration.

Wheatfield is a 25-acre park that includes six baseball diamonds, two tennis courts and a snack bar as well as various other amenities. It is at 30627 Menifee Road, just east of the 215 freeway in Menifee.

menifee247 is not the city's web site, it's just a privately run community-based forum. The official city web site is http://www.cityofmenifee.us/

The city of Menifee is not even 1 year old. How can we be doing this for years? The city of Menifee has nothing to do with it (yet). Why not celebrate Christmas a week earlier to avoid the Christmas shopping spree, or cerebrate Your birthday, a week sooner?

I'd like to make a few clarifications. I apologize for the misprint of the city website. And Jim is correct, the city does not host these events. They have hosted and operated by the Menifee Women's Club for the past eight years. My apologies for the misinformation.
