Motorists planning to use Interstate 215 between Perris and Moreno Valley during the overnight hours were advised today to prepare for delays as crews repave sections of the freeway.

Caltrans will be closing lanes on northbound 215 between D Street in Perris and state Route 60 in Moreno Valley every night this week -- and in the coming weeks -- to facilitate a major resurfacing project.

Caltrans spokeswoman Shelli Lombardo said between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., portions of the northbound 215 will have only one lane available.

Because of the lower Advertisement
traffic volume during those hours, long delays are not expected. But Lombardo said motorists should be prepared for slowing.

She said crews are working in one-mile segments along the 12-mile route.

"There's a duration on road surfaces, and that section of the 215 needs resurfacing because it has outlived its (intended) life span," she said.

The project is expected to last through the summer. Lombardo said crews are working on both sides of the freeway, and lane closures on the southbound side will be necessary in the coming weeks.
