LAKE ELSINORE - A single-engine plane lost power, clipped a home and crashed Saturday near Lake Elsinore, injuring one of two people in the plane and prompting the evacuation of the home, authorities said.

The crash near Bolo Court and Hostettler Road was reported at 12:23 p.m. Saturday, said Cal Fire-Riverside County spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

The plane, an Aircoupe with tail No. N87295, had taken off with two occupants from Flabob Airport in Riverside before losing power and striking a tree, said Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane struck a home as it came down, causing a fuel leak, although there was no fire, Hagemann said. One person was helped out of the plane with moderate injuries, she said. The home was evacuated as a precaution, he said.

Corona firefighters supervised the removal of fuel from the wreckage, Hagemann said. The National Transportation Safety Board was expected to handle the investigation. According to FAA records, the registered owner of the aircraft is Jack Fleisher of Manhasset, N.Y.

The plane crash was the second to occur in the Lake Elsinore area in less than a month. Two people were killed – Stephen Whitson and Debra Lyn Cunningham – were killed in a June 17 crash about six miles northwest of Interstate 15 and Lake Street.

Whitson, 70, was a prominent aviation reporter who was working on a story when he flew from Corona Municipal Airport to French Valley Airport. His plane crashed during the return flight to Corona. Whitson’s passenger -- 56-year-old Debra Lyn Cunningham – was a photographer and family friend who accompanied him on the work-related outing.
