The crash was reported on state Route 79, east of Vail Lake Road, at 5:36 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Caltrans was called to handle the mudslide, while emergency tow crews were called to winch the car up from the embankment, the CHP reported. There was no immediate word about whether the ambulance driver was injured.

70 feet really!!! I drive that road everyday and came across it on my way home yesterday, If people knew how to drive in rainy weather that person probably wouldnt have gone over the embankment that appeared to be about 20 feet and not 70. If there is mud across the road people still think they can make it and this was a small car not a truck either.
'Dont drive in the rain' has obviously never seen a mudslide push a car off the road. That person was most likely driving just fine , just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Yes , the road drops off 70 feet ( not a cliff , but pretty steep) . Most of the bad driving I've seen is in the city . Slow down in the Rain . . . . |
