Suspect fatally shot by deputies investigating home break-in

Issue 06, Volume 14.

MORENO VALLEY - A suspect was fatally shot today by Riverside County sheriff's deputies investigating a possible break-in at a Moreno Valley home.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. at 16904 Century St., near Plumeria Lane, according to the sheriff's department.

"Deputies were responding to a burglary in progress and contacted an individual inside the residence when the shooting occurred,'' said sheriff's Sgt. Joe Borja.

The man's name was not immediately released.

One deputy suffered a cut hand, Borja said.

Borja could not confirm whether the suspect pulled a gun or how many times he was shot.

"It's an ongoing investigation that will probably go long into the night,'' Borja said.

Deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, under department policy for deputy-involved shootings, Borja said.
