Anza Electric Cooperative takes on national supply issues with ‘revolutionary’ campaign in community

Anza Electric Cooperative, a member of the Touchstone Energy nationwide alliance of electric cooperatives, has kicked off an ambitious and comprehensive national energy-efficiency campaign to help its member/customers save energy and money.

"At all times but especially these days with the economic challenges we all face, it’s more important than ever for us to partner with our members to show them how they can make some easy money-saving changes at home and in their businesses," Gloria Britton, Anza Electric’s general manager, said.

Anza Electric Cooperative Inc. started the national campaign in January which will target 46 states.

The co-op – which "energized in 1955" – will mark its 55th anniversary this year.

A rare breed among electrical suppliers, the nonprofit co-op is just one of three such collectives in California. The other two are in remote Northern California communities. And it continues to chart a smooth course, as three incumbent directors were recently re-elected to their posts. Two of those incumbents ran unopposed.

There are many southwest Riverside County residents – even some in the co-op’s 500-square-mile service area – who are unaware of the collective’s unique attributes.

Anza Electric Cooperative has steadily grown in areas served and customers – or "members" as they are known. The co-op takes in the Anza, Garner Valley, Pinyon Pines and parts of Aguanga. It serves a sprinkling of high desert communities – most at about the 4,000-foot elevation mark – Advertisement

that are roughly equidistant from the Temecula, Hemet and Palm Desert areas.

"Touchstone Energy’s ‘Together We Save’ campaign illustrates numerous ways our member-consumers can reduce their energy bills – and thereby save themselves money – by implementing a variety of changes around their homes and businesses," said Jim Bausell, chief operations officer of Touchstone Energy. 

"Whether its unplugging unused appliances or adding an extra layer of insulation in the attic, what we’re showing is how simple these energy-saving techniques are, so that the end-use consumer goes from just thinking about changing some of their habits to actually taking action," Bausell said.

Anza Electric Cooperative members can visit the Web site to see some of the simple things they can do that will result in an immediate cost savings.

The integrated campaign, "Together We Save," features the simultaneous roll-out of television and radio spots, print ads, brochures, and other collateral, as well as more than a dozen energy-efficiency interactive web applications linked to a virtual home tour, all designed to encourage co-op members throughout the country to take energy-saving actions now.
