Friday, March 12th, 2010. Issue 10, Volume 10. Anza’s Walk for the Cure and Cuts for the Cure, events designed to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, are planned for April 17, according to Deanna Bello, one of the effort’s coordinators. "We’re really looking forward to our Third Annual Walk for the Cure," Bello said. "And, we’re extra excited that area salons will be joining in this year for the Cuts for the Cure event on the same day." The Walk for the Cure will begin on Saturday, April 17 at 10 a.m. at the corner of Highway 371 and Contreras Road. Unlike other walks of this type, participants don’t have to garner signatures or rack up double-digit mileage to contribute to the cause. "We don’t care too much about distance or duration walked," Bello pointed out. "Our emphasis is on three things: raising money through donations to support the Susan G. Koman Foundation, raising awareness about breast cancer, and having a good time doing it." Anza residents are encouraged to support the walkers with charitable donations of all denominations. They can also participate in the Cuts for the Cure event. On April 17, participating Anza hair and nail salons will be donating 50 percent of all proceeds Advertisement The participating salons are, in alphabetical order, Anza Barber and Beauty, (951) 763-5483; Bedrock Hair and Nails, (951) 763-2300; Janae’s Hair Cottage, (951) 763-0098; Laura’s Hair Corral, (951) 265-2898; and Truly Nails, (951) 551-7199. "We can’t say enough about the tremendous generosity of these local salons," Bello enthused. "Their commitment needs to be matched by those Anza residents who want to come out looking great for a great cause." Interested patrons are encouraged to call the salons for appointments. Those interested in participating in the Locks of Love long hair donation program should contact Pebbles at Bedrock Hair and Nails. This year’s walk will also feature some exciting giveaways. Raffle ticket purchasers will have the chance to win handcrafted items from area artists and products from local merchants. In addition, Anza’s Calico Cut-Ups (look for the up-coming article featuring this group in one of the next editions) have fashioned and donated yet another beautiful quilt to be raffled off at the walk. T-shirts commemorating the 2010 event will also be available for $10. For more information on these events, contact Bello at (951) 763-2466 or Sue Beard at (951) 763-1146.
