County superintendent honors top academic achievers

Kenneth Young, Riverside County superintendent of schools, named 10 outstanding students to the 2009-2010 All-County Academic Team on March 10, during the Fifth Annual Riverside County Student Academic Awards dinner. Three of those students are from the southwest Riverside County.

High schools from 17 school districts in the county nominated 131 students for honors based on their academic performance, GPA, SAT scores, and extracurricular activities. Each high school named from one to three students based on their enrollment. The All-County Academic Team was chosen from that list. 

The members of the All-County Academic Team were accompanied by their principals and superintendents. The three southwest Riverside County All-Country Academic team members include:

 

Chanel Chang 

A senior at Chaparral High School in the Temecula Valley Unified School District, Chanel Chang received a 2310 score on her SAT, has a GPA of 4.42, and is ranked third in her class.  

Chanel’s activities and honors include being a Science Olympiad, bulletin editor of Key Club, California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, AP scholar with distinction, PSAT/NMSQT letter of commendation, and teacher at Young Nak Presbyterian Church Sunday Korean School.

 

Green Choi 

With a score of 2390 on his SAT, and a GPA of 4.5, Vista Murrieta High School student Green Choi is ranked first in his class. 

The Murrieta Valley Unified School District senior classman is involved in many activities and has received several high honors including Boy Scouts of America, Tae Kwon Do, tennis team, California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Benefit Association of Teens, helping out North Koreans, National Merit Scholarship finalist, Eagle Scout award Advertisement

recipient, National AP Scholar, Renaissance Scholar award, Korean American Award of Outstanding Student and Scholarship, second degree black belt, All Scholastic Team Award, Korea Daily dream essay contest winner.

  

Ketaki Panse 

A senior at Hemet High School, Ketaki Panse scored 2370 on her SAT, and carries a 4.6 GPA. She is ranked first in her class. 

The Hemet Valley Unified School District student’s activities and honors include Mock Trial, Symphonic Band, Interact Club member and treasurer, Link Crew member, Future College Graduates Club member, Mandir Youth Club president, Varsity tennis team captain, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards recipient, AP National Scholar, Sunbelt Tennis league MVP, National Honor Society, Science Fair, California Math League school’s top scorer.
