Issue 12, Volume 10.

INDIAN WELLS – A Friday memorial service is scheduled for Barry Nestande, the brother of an assemblyman who represents Anza and several surrounding communities and former chief of staff to Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit.

Nestande, 49, collapsed while riding an exercise bike and died about 3 p.m. Friday at John F. Kennedy Memorial Center in Indio, according to the office of Riverside County Supervisor John Benoit.

A memorial will be at 10 a.m. at Southwest Community Church, 77701 Fred Waring Drive.

Nestande was Benoit’s chief of staff for seven years, including Benoit’s tenure in the Legislature before becoming a county supervisor. Before working for Benoit, Nestande spent years working in politics and in the financial and insurance industries.

Nestande leaves behind a wife and two sons.

In lieu of flowers, Nestande’s family asked that donations be made to the YWCA-Central Orange County, P.O. Box 689, Orange, CA, 92866, with "Beverly’s House" in the memo line. Beverly’s House, a shelter for women leaving foster care, was founded by Nestande’s mother.
