The temblor, centered 10 miles west-northwest of Palm Springs, was recorded at 6:59 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no immediate reports of damage in the area. Earthquakes in the magnitude-3 range are barely perceptible by humans and rarely cause damage.
