Pray for their friends and family members. I am actually hoping that they aren't local and citizens.
Fallbrook just went through the murder of K.M. the other day.
Maybe Karma has struck a cord here and these are the gang members that took KM's life.
Comment #4 | Friday, Jan 14, 2011 at 9:45 am
Ummm how do we know it was gang members that took that man's life? Geez, read the article. The mom thinks it has something to do with his girlfriend. HELLO!
This is very sad, and I am praying for the family and friends...

What color was the Altima? 90 mph??? I was once harassed with major road rage from a white Altima on that road.....

Thanks Village News, without you no one would know what was going on.
Comment #7 | Friday, Jan 14, 2011 at 10:54 am
you really need to read the story before commenting as such. Stop being so ignorant of Fallbrook life.
If you lived in Fallbrook, you would understand how obvious this is. What do they say, its a no brainer!!!
I am sorry if this affects you and your family, but illegal is illegal and gangs are gangs. Plain and simple.
I will keep you in my prayers for not only wisdom, but also for safety for you and your loved ones.
Comment #8 | Friday, Jan 14, 2011 at 10:58 am
There is nothing left of that car, how very sad. I saw this reported last night on the CHP website. It said it was reported because the responding party heard an accident and smelled burning rubber. That curve is bad and you definitely cannot take it at 90 mph.
Wondering@ The car looks like it is a dark turquoise.

please stop all the negativity. Yes they were speeding. I get that that was unsafe. They werent the first ppl to ever speed. They had been trying to turn their lives around. That doesnt happen overnight. They will be missed by many people and as for u Ray, if u could find it in ur heart for some sympathy for my family i would appreciate it. Someone should not be judged only by the mistakes they made, but also by the good they bring. Please remember that.

Please stop trying to slam the deaths of two people who meant to cause no harm to another person!!! Shawna grew up in Fallbrook and was a wonderful girl. I didn't get to meet her new husband, but I know he made Shawna happy. Let stop talking about who is at fault!! Lets talk about a family who needs the help of Locals to get them both home to Utah for a proper burial!! I would really much like to see some people ban together to try and help the family deal with these deaths!! Shawna was a mother and a new wife not a gang member!! My name is Ruth Mckay and I raised two children in Fallbrook and had a beauty salon for many years before relocating to Colorado. Shawna's family needs our help to bring them home. If anyone is interested please post contact me on Facebook or email. Ruth Sommer Mckay- firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you Fallbrook for listening.

Wow. That car looks as bad.
I've never done it but 90 miles per hour should be no problem on that road. 2:00 A.M. is the most responsible time for that speed. Speed was certainly not the cause of this wreck. Losing control was.
Sixty in the middle of the day is more dangerous than 90 at that time of night.

Senseless tragedy. They could have also taken someone else with them at that speed on that road. I have seen way too many accidents and have had people go around me when I have had my kids in the car and doing the speed limit. What a loss and so sorry to the family. Obviously, they were loved a great deal.

To all the negative feelings & remarks; the movie Bambi said it best: "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" We as this couple's family, don't care about opinions about this tragic happening. Let us mourn in our own way without hateful comebacks. Leandra, you are a classy lady, and you said it very well. Shawna & Jason Nafus will truly be missed. R.I.P.

I grew up in Fallbrook and new a lot of people that went 90+ on S Mission all the time. If you know the road then getting around the corners is easy. The driver could have fiddled with the radio, dozed off or gotten distracted and have this same thing happen. It would be nice to see a lot less finger pointing as to who's fault it is and more caring that two people with mothers, fathers and sisters are now dead.
I wish the best to the family and friends and remind all that they are both in a better place.

I am so sorry for the loss of your family members, what a horrible accident. What were they doing speeding 90mph at 2am when they have young kids?
I too am a parent and used to be young and speed on these roads but at some point you have to be responsible and drive carefully. I am glad one of MY family members wasn't in their path!!!! They need you use this accident as an example to teach the dangers of speeding.....let them leave a legacy in saving others lives...

Wow...the loss of respect for people is huge! The fact that all you people are so busy ASSUMEING you know what happened, and saying all the disrespectful things about two people who just lost their lives is disgusting! Not anyone of us has the right to judge anyone else...not one of us! I pray for peace and comfort for the family...knowledge for those who judge...and campassion for all those who are missing the fact that two people died.

This is a very sad situation!!! May god rest their souls and bring them home!!! Pray for this family and their friends!!!! But, I also have this one question...Why all the comments telling everyone to stop worrying about the speed and worry about the fact that they lost their lives?? What if they had been going the speed and paying attention they would probably still be here...Under no currcumstances should anyone being going that fast on any road... Thats why there are speed limits, because of things like this....you just don't do it!!! I also knew Shanwa!!!

I will be available to help Joey and your Dad with anything the family needs when they come to San Diego. Thank you to everyone who has expressed their sympathy to our family. Those who have commented with some negativity please keep this in mind...the only fact about the accident is speeding. Please don't jump to conclusions of DUI, karma, etc. They could have swerved to avoid hitting a deer or coyote and lost control. None of us were there when it happened. Until all police and forensic investigations are finalized and signed, please keep your comments respectful.

I personally know a few of the people mourning the loss of these two people, all the prayers possible would be great for those still here and feeling the pain of lost ones instead of our assumption making and arguing and judging who these people were and what they were doing, I drive at that time of night ALL the time, almost every single night, and not once have I been intoxicated with alcohol nor drug, it is possible for people to be out driving at such times without being under any sort of influence. C'mon people, and yes you are included Ray, just give out your prayers for those who are grieving the loss of two strongly loved people. If you don't care to pray for the mourners, at least let this incident be in the back of your mind when you push the gas pedal a little further than you should (not saying everyone here goes 90 everywhere, but I know I opccasionally speed and thanks to the presentation by the firefighters my senior year in highschool I tend to watch my speed much more carefully now. It's easy to lose control, curvy roads or straigt, everyone be safe). My prayers for those grieving.
Comment #55 | Saturday, Jan 15, 2011 at 5:59 am
So, why are there speed limits? 90 MPH in a 45 MPH zone!
Is anyone RESPONSIBLE for their actions and decisions they make?
How could this accident have been prevented? It's obvious.
It's a shame two individuals died, and needlessly lost their lives.
Thankgoodness, THE DRIVER didn't take anyone else's lives!

There is no excuse for anyone to be driving 90 on that road day or
night and I think it shows a completely warped perspective to be
showering accolades on a man who by his own recklessness kills himself and his innocent passenger.

To the families.. I lost my brother in a accident not to long ago. It made the news too, it seemed like everyone who was a "know it all" had to post the cruel dumbest comments! I am sorry for your loss, do not let the comments of those who did not know your family member get to you no matter how hard it is, they are just dumb people who take a moment out of their lives to Judge others without knowing the whole store. citizens comments were a reply to the killing of KM last week. Not of this accident.
IT was crossed due to some silly arguments that are not shown now, on this board.
All citizens said was that he was praying that it wasn 't local residents, being a long time resident himself and knowing many families in the area.
Citizen was hoping that those who murdered KM were the ones here, not some innocent victims, such as it is.
God Bless all those who are involved with this tragedy.

...weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion. (Romans 12:15-16) Our hearts are sad and our prayers for strength, comfort and compassion are with the family and friends of those who were lost. We too lost our beautiful daughter to a car accident last Feb. and our lives will never be the same. We miss her every day. We are so sorry for your loss. Comfort, comfort My people, says your God. (Isaiah 40:1) God comforts us not to make us comfortable but to make us comforters. We don't know eachother, but we will continue to pray for you.
Comment #62 | Saturday, Jan 15, 2011 at 10:46 am
This is sad, but what troubles me the most, is the general disregard people have for the law, or the possible consequences of their choices! There isn't any reason for anyone to be out on the roads at that time of the night, and traveling at that speed, on ANY road in this country, is a violation of the law. I'm just thankful that no innocent motorist was killed as a result of this driver's bad choices. I have no doubt that family and close friends are grieving, but maybe this incident will serve as a lesson in life to all the young people of our society, to remind them that they are not infallible or invincible, and that a careless action can result in death; not just to themselves, but to others.

OK for all of you posting on here saying it was reckless or that there is no excuse to speed I have the following to say to all of you.... I knew both Jason and Shawna very well and I will miss them as much as their families will. As for a little perspective into Jason... before moving to California Jason was a member of the Fire Department in Kanosh and would get up in the middle of the night to help anyone in need as would Shawna. I am an EMT and a fireman who worked and grew up in California, spent 16 years in Las Vegas and now in Salt Lake and I have first hand knowledge that there is not any one of us (Myself included) that is not guilty of speeding!!! If you tell me you do not speed, text and drive, talk on the cell phone and drive, mess with the radio, fight with the wife, husband, kids, pets, etc. or any of the other million things that distract you when your driving THEN YOU ARE A LIAR AND IN DENIAL!!!! I have rescued far too many people from car wrecks for all of the reasons listed above and more!!! 99% of all accidents are NOT ACCIDENTS they are operator error!!! Jason is now being judged by his maker and does not need a bunch of "KEYBOARD COMMENTATORS" convicting him without all the evidence!! So before you spew your nonsense into the world think about yourself for a minute and realize that it could happen to you at anytime!!!

Amen john. I went to the site yesterday and can admit I am very guilty of driving that road at 90 at points in my life. Will I do it again? Never. Have some respect for the family all of you. If your son or brother or daughter or sister was speeding and died youd be devastated as well and would want to be nice. If you have nothing nice to say slush your mouth. Take a step back, go remind your family and friends you love and cherish them because as we have all seen it can end any second. With out any warning. Stay strong to all the family members, you have a whole town and more behind ypu.

Sad times for many who new these folks. I pray you can overcome your grief.
It took six speeding tickets, albeit none were on this type of roadway (all freeway cites - 5 & 15 and one on the 101), to slowed me down. They were in my youth, mind you, and the fines were nothing monetarily like they are today. I took traffic school 4 times, back when you could do it more than once, and the fine was disregarded. Now you have to pay the fine AND the cost of traffic school. California - the scam state.

First to the families of these two victims, I grew up in Jason's home town, and I send my sincere sympathies and condolences to all of you. Word of advice from someone who too has once lost someone in a tragedy and had news articles pasted all over the internet: it's best not to read these comments. People outside of the "picture" will never understand. It's amazing how people can twist things and be so judgemental. We all make wrong choices sometimes, but it's sad when someone loses their life--- no matter what! Anyway, it's probably not worth your time focusing on all the comments people leave on places like these. Sure there are some positive ones but mostly it's a place for negativity- which is not what you need right now. Your true friends and family will give you positive words through personal visits, phone calls, cards, and internet condolences through your mortuary. Focus on those and not places like these! I know that's what helped me. So make this the last comment you read. :) God Bless!

This is not a time to be judging others actions but to be caring. My prayers and sympathies go out to the families. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.

What on earth has happened to compassion and civility? Two young people are now gone from this life and from their families. Those left behind are grieving and mourning the loss of their loved ones, and do not need the crass, thoughtless comments of people who are quick to judge others when they don't have any idea of what happened. Shawna is my cousin's daughter, I grieve for her family's loss. So should the rest of you.

1. First and foremost, my condolences to friends and family of the couple who was killed :( and I mean that sincerely.
2. Lowa...you said no one should be out driving around at that hour. Really? Youve NEVER had to go anywhere in the middle of the night? Okaaaaay.
3. We dont know WHY they were speeding. Perhaps it was just messing around and that of course was wrong, but were all assuming here. We dont know their reason for it.
4. Ive been in a car when the driver drove recklessly and I was terrified but it was out of my control. Seems the passenger here is being blamed as much as the driver for excessive speeds.
5. So sad...but we all can learn from this. Seeing those pictures shook me to the core. Show your teens. Dont let their deaths be in vain....

Read post #62 from LOWA-she's right on.
Bottom line: would Jason and Shawna be alive today if he was responsible and going the speed limit? Most likely.
My condolences to all the family members and friends for your loss.

May god wrap his arms around you and bless you with the wonderful memories of Shawna and Jason. May he ease your pain of your loss and remember that this was all in gods plan (whatever that may be). They are now entering the Kingdom of Heaven where there is no more pain. Hug each other, Love each other and remember the ones that are still here with you. I love you you the Sarratt and Greene Family and I am praying for you in these hard times. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you.

No one is perfect. I know the son of this man. Do you know what the negative comments can do to him? Seeing his dad crucified like this by strangers who do not know him? Don't you think he knows his dad wasn't perfect, but don't you think his heart is being torn out when he sees those pictures? I know mine was. I had met Jason. I am friend of his son's mom. Just remember no one is perfect. Also don't judge til you walk in someone elses shoes. My heart and prayers go out to the familiesof this tragedy. May you find peace.

I am sure the family will always ask why so what is the necessity for all the negative comments are you people so unfeeling and ignorant that you do not see two people have died family and friends are hurting and a child without a parent. I was blessed to have a son for 18 years he died after minor surgery. if there is such a thing. I am so glad I never had to read this kind of unkind comments. God Bless all the family and friends And God Bless Fallbrook the loss will be felt for a long time by many.

Its amazing how when there is death all people can do anymore is make assumptions about the cause or reasons behind it. Why dont you guys just give your apologies and prayers...spare the rude assumptions and comments on how wrong speeding is. Everyone has done it or does it. R.I.P. Jason and Shawna.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Jason and Shawna. We had only known Shawna for a short while but she was a loving mother and quiet in nature. We were glad to hear however that she had met and married her soul mate and that life was begining to show promise for them both.
God evidently had better plans for them and they are now resting in his loving arm. Time heals all things but memories are ours always to hang on to.

I am sending healing energy to all those who are grieving the sad loss of these two souls. No words can adequately express the heartbreak that something like this can bring.
Grief can bring out strong emotions in everyone- good and bad. I hope we can see beyond the angry remarks and see the loss, fear, and inconsolable sadness that this tragic accident has brought to our small community. Fallbrook is filled with wonderful people and hopefully we can all move forward with kindness in our hearts and love for those of us who are trying to heal.

I was commenting on the post that Citizen posted who stated he hoped it was karma and that they would hope it was gang memebers who died. FYI, was born and raised in Fallbrook. I understand the gang and illegal debates but come on. Let's concentrate on the couple who passed away and pray for them.
Don't worry Amazament, no need t pray for me.

Shawna & Jason were caring & loving people. My son grew up with Shawna and we have known her for many many years. Jason came to our rescue so many times when our car broken down. Both of them enjoyed Thanksgiving and many other holidays at our home. They were killed on my sons birthday - which was so hard for our family. Jason and Shawna left a message on my sons phone just an hour before they died wishing him a Happy Birthday! They missed his BBQ and we just haven't been the same since. It saddens me to read some of these comments - these people were good people - who helped others!

What about the other innocents who were endangered by a motorist driving 90mph? Driving 90mph was not a "mistake" on a highway posted at 45mph. It was disregard for the rights of others to be able to travel in safety on public roads. An innocent passenger was killed. I'm relieved that there was just one victim.

I don't think so. I grieve with their family members and friends. Although they are gone, I will be going a lot slower along Mission in the future. It could happen to any of us, but it's our decision to make and nobody elses when we get behind the wheel. Perhaps their sacrifice will save other's lives, by changing their driving habits..slow down folks!

My prayers are with both families of the two whose lives were taken in an instance. I knew the man involved, & he was a man who would go out of his way to help anyone, no matter who you were. I worked with him for over a year & he always went out of his way to ask how my day was going. Yes, they were driving fast, but too many people are so fast to judge, and I am sorry for you. May God be with all of the close family & friends.
Comment #97 | Monday, Jan 17, 2011 at 6:09 pm
I am getting really tired of reading all these comments about how Jason was in the wrong! Even more tired of hearing how it was karma and such!! Honestly, people... If you don't have any nice comments to say whether you knew Shawna and Jason or not, then maybe you should just keep them to yourselves. I went to High School with Shawna, and we just happened to be neighbors when we were both in our first marriages... I love that girl, she is an amazing woman. And it takes an amazing man to deserve such an amazing woman. Two peas in a pod, I'm sure! It's very unfortunate that Shawna and Jason had to leave us at such a young age, they were definitely in their prime! So let's take a breath, acknowledge the fact that this has happened and go with it. No more accusations, no more rude comments. It's inappropriate and uncalled for. God have mercy on their souls, may they rest in peace, and we shall meet them again one day in Heaven. God bless the families who lost their beloved Shawna and Jason. I am praying for you all.

To the family and friends of those lost....
Trust me on this....I lost an infant nephew to murder, and I know how hard it is to be a family member to someone who made the news.
Please don't read the comments on any news source. People have the right to their opinions, but don't needlessly torture yourself to listening to others. I understand what they are saying, because I thought the same thing about the speed they were going. I am a second generation Fallbrook native and the reports scared me because I could have been on the road and killed. Be honest and admit you would think the same thing if this wasn't someone you loved.
That being said...you are innocent, and you knew the one's you lost in real life, so you are far from removed from the situation. Just stop reading comments, and take the steps to take care of YOU and your loved ones. The healing process is going to take time, and reopening wounds daily isn't going to help.
I truly hope this helps, because I mean nothing other than trying to help and the utmost respect for the fact you lost people you love. I have been there, and I know. Take care of yourself and your loved ones......

Okay, I know the article says that Jason was speeding. I question, how do we know there wasn't a medical emergency? Or that speed increased because Jason suffered a medical issue causing him to "accidentally" increase his speed? I just think people need to be careful before rushing to judgment. None of us were there. We don't "know" what happened!! I am sorry that two people lost their lives so tragically and that many of their loved ones are left to grieve. Please let these people heal instead of hurting them further, afterall, they ARE innocent victims!

to all of you people that are making such rude and inconciderate comments about the deceased accidents happen mistakes will be made but to judge someone is not your place nor your right. that right belongs to god know your place! and maybe you should be praying for yourself that your own words dont come back on you. this could be your family member or your friend or your child one day!! so heed your own words. esspecially when you didnt even know these people. and no people they were not gang members so keep that out of your mouth dont talk about things you know nothing about! goes to show you how ignorant some people in the world are!
Comment #109 | Friday, Jan 21, 2011 at 2:50 pm
To Jennifer, I totally agree with you. Before making comments that only add to the pain and grief of the famililies, we should stop to think about what could happen to any one of us. Two people lost their lives. This in itself is heartbreaking. If we took a moment to realize what one life means, we would appreciate every day we have on this earth. Compassion and empathy seem to be lacking in our society. I will pray for the family and friends of these two people. I will also pray for those who are quick to jump to conclusions and speak before thinking.

After seeing the photos of the crash I couldn't imagine seeing anything worse....sadly some of the comments that were posted were WAY WORSE. Ignorant people need to stop judging and jumping to conclusions before they have ANY facts. Compassion is what is needed not criticism. Pray for the families and children left behind - they need our support.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free - I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way; I found that place at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss; Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.
