General Lamb retiring as long-time AFVW CEO

RIVERSIDE – Retired USAF Brig. Gen. Charles W. Lamb Sr. is stepping down as President and CEO of AFVW, a continuing care retirement community in Riverside. Lamb’s hard work and dedication helped make AFVW, also known as Air Force Village West, a reality. He identified 221 acres of excess military land at the former March Air Force Base and developed the proposed legislation to permit the US Air Force to sell the land to AFVW. He was also responsible for the engineering and architectural design of the community.

Lamb served on the AFVW Board of Directors from 1988-1996, when he was appointed President/CEO.

"After 30 years of service to AFVW, we are sad to see our mentor go. We will be forever grateful for the kindness, inspiration, and humor he expressed toward all AFVW residents and employees," said Carmen Seymour, VP of Marketing, who worked with Lamb since the beginning.

[ MyGym Children's Fitness Center ] replace Lamb as AFVW President/CEO. Melin, who retired from the US Air Force in 2010, had been serving as chairman of the AFVW Board of Directors since June 2011.

Currently, AFVW accommodates 770 residents in a variety of housing choices including single-family homes, duplexes, and apartments with 15 different floor plans ranging from 664 to 3,300 square feet. Assisted-living, skilled nursing and Alzheimer’s units are also available. Pets are welcome.

When AFVW first opened, resident eligibility was limited to retired or honorably discharged military officers and high-ranking government officials, their spouses, and surviving spouses. Last year, AFVW opened its doors to all individuals, 60 years of age or older, who have served their country or their community.

Prospective residents are invited to visit AFVW, which features a club-style dining room with food prepared by award-winning chefs, a quaint café, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, a fully-equipped fitness center with a personal trainer, and an on-site health care facility.
