HERBERT P. SMITH

HERBERT P. SMITH, 84, of Murrieta, CA, past Director on the MURRIETA COUNTY WATER DISTRICT passed away unexpectedly from a coronary arrest at his podiatristís office on January 26, 2012 and was pronounced dead at Rancho Springs Medical Center Emergency Room in Murrieta by Dr. Michael Garcia.

Herbert was born October 27, 1927, the eldest child of Farrell H. Sr. and Louise (Gregoire) Smith of THOMPSON NORTH DAKOTA. In 1945 at the end of World War II he enlisted and served on the US COAST GUARD CUTTER DAPHNE out of Oakland CA. He graduated from the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA in Industrial Arts.

On August 6, 1947 he married VIRGINIA MAE TANNAHILL, daughter of John and Rena (Staveteig) of Thompson. Following the untimely death on November 12, 1953 in Cavalier, North Dakota of his wife and the child she was carrying, he joined the rest of his family in their move, already in progress, to the Southern California area where he remarried, residing there until his demise.

He taught in Strandquist, Minnesota, Cavalier, North Dakota, and Big Pine, California. A PRINTED CIRCUIT PIONEER, he was employed at Packard Bell, Lockheed Electronics, by Max Palevsky at Scientific Data Systems, XEROX Data Systems, and by Don Redfern of Insulectro at Quintec Manufacturing (now OLP) until his retirement in 1988.

Herbert is survived by his sons with Virginia Tannahill Smith from his first marriage, STEVEN (Susan) Smith of rural Minnesota and DOUGLAS (Nan) Smith of Southern California, sister Patricia (Smith) Raborn of Long Beach, CA, brother David (Sharon) Smith of Murrieta, CA, and his second wife JANETH COLLEEN MOORE SMITH and their children KATHLEEN Barthelemy of Visalia, CA, THOMAS (Krista) Smith of Oakdale, CA, and ROBERT (Mindy) Smith of Temecula, CA, along with thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter, numerous nieces and nephews and their offspring.

He was preceded in death by his wife, VIRGINIA, an unborn son, his parents, brother Farrell H. Smith, Jr., his TANNAHILL in-laws, brother-in-law Walter (Patricia Smith) Raborn, sister-in-law Lola (Farrell H. Jr.) Erickson Smith, nieces Laura Smith Pieri, Janet Smith Allen, Cynthia Ann Smith, and great granddaughter Elle Susan Smith.

After being released to the England Family Mortuary in Temecula by the Riverside County Coronerís Office, Herbert was cremated on February 4, 2012 in the city of Lake Elsinore, solely witnessed by his son, Douglas.
