MURRIETA – Long-time Murrieta resident Catherine Landon celebrated her 100th birthday over the weekend. Members of her church, the Murrieta United Methodist Church, surprised Landon with a party to kick off the milestone festivities Thursday, Sept. 27, followed by a luncheon with friends and family on Sunday, Sept. 30 – her birthday.

Landon was born and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas. She and her husband, Leon, moved to Southern California in 1942. Before retirement, she had an active career as an executive secretary within the Lawndale Unified School District.

playing her beloved violin as a member of the Inland Valley Symphony. While no longer playing publicly, her music stand and violin are ever-present in her living room. Her music-loving dog "Smiles" still enjoys an occasional afternoon serenade.

Friends and family alike praise Landons positive attitude and graciousness. When asked about her birthday bash, she deftly turned conversation away from herself and acknowledged everyone who took part.

"I am blessed with so many friends here," said Landon about the retirement community where she and her dog reside, "and want to say a special thank you to Jennifer Willis for arranging this wonderful party."
