Temecula’s Matthew Hynek won the Boys 12 Singles championship at the 28th Annual Fallbrook Fall Junior Satellite Tournament which took place Sept. 8-16 at the Fallbrook Tennis Club.

Hynek, who was seeded third, faced top-seeded Brian Farmer of San Marcos in the semifinals. Hynek opened the match with a 6-0 victory. Farmer then tied the match with a 6-3 triumph.

If a match was tied at one set apiece, a tiebreaker to 10 points rather than a third full set was used to determine the match winner. Hynek won his tenth point in the tiebreaker when Farmer had five points.

Hynek then faced Brandon Wong of Rancho Santa Fe in the championship match.  Hynek prevailed in 6-0 and 6-2 sets to capture the division title.

The tournament included a consolation bracket, which allowed first-round losers to obtain at least one additional match. Maria Volkoff of Menifee won the Girls 16 Singles consolation championship after a pair of 6-3 wins in the finals against Fallbrook’s Tori Sullivan.
