TEMECULA - A 26-year-old man struck by a car as he rode his skateboard across a Temecula roadway remained in serious but stable condition today, authorities said.

Joshua Schmittou of Temecula was accidentally struck by a motorist around 8:25 p.m. Wednesday on Winchester Road, near Ynez Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

[ Metalography ] him in time and plowed into the victim, said sheriff's Sgt. John Magnan.

He said the motorist, Sandra Orlaski of Temecula, and a witness remained at the scene with the skateboarder until emergency personnel arrived.

Schmittou was taken to a hospital for treatment of major injuries, according to the sergeant.

"At this time of the investigation, no alcohol, drugs or other impairment is suspected, and the investigation is continuing," Magnan said.
