Translate this page Camp Pendleton Marine shot and killed by Palm Springs police during fightMonday, November 12th, 2012 Issue 46, Volume 16.
The man's name had not been released today by the Riverside County Coroner's Office, as family members were still being notified. Second Lt. Savannah Moyer, the public affairs officer with the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton, told The Desert Sun newspaper on Sunday that "a Marine was fatally wounded in an incident yesterday morning." She said the Marine was with the 1st Marine Logistics Group. That report could not be confirmed by City News Service today. The Palm Springs Police Department continued to investigate the shooting, which broke out when two officers on bicycles were conducting a routine patrol Advertisement The department says its officers saw a fight break out in the parking structure at 275 S. Indian Canyon Drive. As they talked with the driver of a black Chrysler 300, some sort of scuffle broke out between its driver and the officers, according to Palm Spring police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff. It was not clear of the Marine was in the car or outside it, but Kivaleff said both officers fired their weapons. Both police officers have 4- 1/2 years with the department, and were put on administrative, pending the outcome of the shooting investigation, Kovaleff said. A man who had been with the Marine was initially taken into custody for suspicion of being drunk, but he was released after police questioned him, Kovaleff said. 10 comments
I grew up in Logan Heights, the San Diego ghetto. I had blond hair and blue eyes at a time when that was the the exception, not the rule. BUT I SURVIVED. And I never had a weapon. So unless this Marine was armed, there is absolutely NO excuse for taking his life. I hope the cops on the bike have a very, very long time to reflect on the harm they have wrought.
Redneck Bill, What color are your eyes now?
So the quick trigger police had to kill again. We do need them for people to follow the laws but not for them to abuse their authority and to bully citizens.
There we go again...It seems Fallbrook residents are quick to place blame before all the facts are in. This sure is a cruel, judgemental city.
To 123...Maybe we have been let down so much.
I thought bars were to cut persons off before they were to drunk? I am very sorry this young Marine passed in this way. He was a trained marine, the officer could have been in fear for his own life. It shouldn't have happened at all, he should have respected the officers orders to stop what he was doing. He was trained to respect. If he had been sober, he may still be here. (Just my feelings. Please, don't start a rant over my feelings.)
Yes, investigate, but afterward- two trained police officers, with mace, clubs could not control one drunk Marine? that is what the radio is for - back up. This is the second recent killing of a Marine by law enforcement for, to me, less than justified reason.
I understand your feelings, I just think we react to quickly somtimes before we know what really happened. (It happened to a friend of mine who was falsly accused of someting...made his life Hell for years!) To grunt - If someone is behind the wheel and the car is in motion, it would reason that using mace could endanger others and clubs probably couldn't be used while the person is in the car. That being said, it may have been better to back off and, like you say, use the radio. We still don't have all the facts though. It is a shame and my condolences go out the the family. I know there are a lot of people sorry for this loss. ![]()

Notwithstanding, alcolol is a major problem within the military followed by bath salts. |
