"The first loss was an early motivator," said Coach Scott Romero. "It gave the coaches the chance to get the players attention and work on all aspects of the game including fielding, pitching, catching, hitting and base running." This past weekend was the league’s Championship End of Season Tournament and the Xtreme garnered a tough bracket in pool play, paired up with the #2 and #3 ranked teams in the Fall Ball Unlimited League. In game one, they came back from a four-run deficit in the top of the fifth to secure a victory against the renegades with a score of 6-5 and in game two of pool play, the Xtreme utilized the momentum of game one’s come-from-behind victory to push six runs across the plate in the top of the first inning to gain the eventual second win of the day with a score of 8-3 over the Cal-Select travel baseball team. With those two victories, the Xtreme players secured a spot on Sunday in the League Championship Game. They would have to wait for the results of the other four team’s games as they battled it out to unveil the other Championship game contender. Cal-Select played early on Sunday and won two games, to set up the grand finale vs. the Xtreme team. With a five-run early lead, the Cal Select team looked to be the favorite, but the Xtreme charged back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. With the game tied 5-5, Tyler Baca hit a walk off homerun in the bottom of the seventh to secure the championship. Including the playoffs and championship, the Xtreme ended the season with a 13-game winning streak. "The keys to having such a successful season were consistent pitching and an explosive offense," said Coach Brian Johnston, who also added, "Congrats to The Temecula Xtreme and Cal Select and all who participated in the Murrieta Valley Pony Unlimited League for a hard fought fall season. Congratulations also for challenging each other to compete and make strides of development throughout the season for all who participated."
