MURIETTA - A former band camp coach was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery related to an alleged relationship with a 15-year-old band member, according to police today.

Garrett Karlin, 23, was arrested Nov. 20 in the 24000 block of Rovendale Court in Murrieta and booked on several counts, according to Murrieta police.

Karlin was a part-time employee of the Murrieta Valley Unified School District and worked for a short time during the summer as a band camp coach with the Vista Murrieta High School band.

Karlin developed a personal friendship with the victim and was later employed as the victim's private music teacher, police said.

An investigation revealed that inappropriate actions took place off campus and outside of school activities, police said.
