The large and powerful dog reportedly mauled a much smaller Welsh corgi as its female owner was walking it at 7:53 a.m. Friday in the 24400 block of Skyview Ridge, Murrieta police Lt. Rob Firmes said. The woman struck the akita an unknown number of times with an umbrella. Passersby jumped in to help the woman save her dog, and the akita ran off, Firmes said. The corgi later died. Officers spotted the akita and called for an animal control officer as attacked a second dog, a pug, that was leashed on the front porch Advertisement The akita was stunned long enough to drop the injured pug, which retreated with its owner into the home. The akita then ran toward one of the two police officers at the scene, Firmes said. The akita was shot and killed. Police did not know if the pug survived. The akita was one of two similar dogs from the same owner that were seen loose in the area, police said. Students at nearby Shivela Middle School students were escorted by officers who were unsure of the other dog's whereabouts. 0 comments Be the first to share your opinion on this article! |
