A headstall donated by Temecula’s Dale Chavez sold for $250 at the Dec. 15, 2012, auction which was part of the Cowboy Reunion in Las Vegas during National Finals Rodeo Week.

"This guy builds good stuff," said auctioneer Jess Franks.

The headstall was purchased by Les Weidman of Hickman, California. Weidman, who roped in what is now the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association during the 1960s and 1970s, still ropes in various organizations and will use the headstall he purchased for his roping horse.

A headstall is the part of a bridle or halter which fits around a horse’s head to control a horse being ridden.

The Cowboy Reunion, which this year took place Dec. 13-15, 2012, at the Orleans Hotel, involved conversations and also included silent auction and live auction sessions. The headstall sold at the live auction.

The auctions, drawings, and registration fees raise money for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund, the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Rodeo Historical Society

"I think every year he’s donated," Cowboy Reunion organizer Liz Kesler said of Chavez.

In addition to donating the headstall for the auction, Dale Chavez Company had a booth at the Dec. 6-15, 2012, Cowboy Christmas Gift Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
