Riverside County sheriff's anti-gang investigators identified a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, along with 20-year-old Francisco Roy Zavala, as suspects in the fatal stabbing of Eric Ronald Sargeant Jr. and arrested them this afternoon. The teenagers were booked into Southwest Juvenile Hall in Murrieta on suspicion of murder. Their names were not released because of their ages. Zavala was booked into the Southwest Detention Center on the same charge and parole violations. He is being held without bail. All three suspects live in East Hemet, according to sheriff's investigators. Sargeant was fatally stabbed shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, near the intersection of Acacia Avenue and Cherrywood Drive, near his home. Sargeant was walking home when he was confronted by three to four males, who demanded he hand over his mobile phone, witnesses told deputies. When the victim refused to comply, the suspects stabbed him multiple times. The assailants fled through a vacant field and disappeared Advertisement Sargeant was rushed via air ambulance to a hospital for surgery, but died from his injuries five hours later, authorities said. Dozens of people turned out for a vigil to honor Sargeant Tuesday night.

What is happening in hemet? Are gangs that prevelant? And if so, WHY isn't there more police presence. When a boy is not safe walking down the street, its time to act. Shame on hemets governance for not protecting its citizens. Get a gang task force in there.
so sad
d.... cowards for ganging up on, and killing this young man.
What a horrific way to die. Condolences to his parents. This is heart wrenching. May the peace of God, which passes all human understanding, be with you.
It's not like it was going to offend anyone, other than the .... criminals that killed this kid. And who cares if they are offended, not me!
4 Hispanic kids attack and kill 1 Caucasian kid. The three should be charged with a hate crime along with murder.
Someone lost a kid, grandson and maybe a sibling. The people responsible should go to jail for life. That still wouldn't be enough because they still have their life. And this kid lost his.
I hope they get locked up and the key thrown away! Those creeps should be charged with murder and a hate crime! The murders are nothing but a waste of space on this planet!
If you are right about the races this is a prime example of the double standard. If three white kids killed anyone during a robbery they'd be labeled racists right away. Given the fact that these Latinos were even in a gang shows the amount of double standards America now has against white people. Yes white people do wrong, but we are called racists anytime another race is involved. Who keeps racism more alive, who are the true racists?
Im hispanic and agree with the other people who said suspect should be charged with a hate crime and anything else they can possibly be charged with. But it sounds to me like the’re trying to make it a racial issue. I don’t care what color they are. If anyone does anything like this they should throw the book at them but stop making this a racial thing. Were are as pissed off over this as anyone else.
I knew Francisco Zavala since he was 15yrs old and he used to be an amazing kid. He saved me and put himself in harms way when he was 16yrs old. He stood up to a grown man and told him he would have to kill him to touch me. He always avoided violence and then he turned 18 and went to prison over a bicycle that he stole. I was there when he got arrested for that burglary charge. Idk what happened when he was locked up but he came out a completely different person. He became institutionalized. I don't believe that the victim died over a cell phone and I'm not defending Francisco's actions. However I want people to know he was just like that 16yr old until the justice system got ahold of him. How does that seem like justice it turned 1 good kid into a an adult that is accused of killing another good kid. If he did it, that is horrible and he should pay for what he did but it hurts me to know that everyone thinks they should put up their comments when they didn't know the victim or the suspects. |
