RIVERSIDE - A former volunteer assistant basketball coach at Perris High School pleaded guilty today to two dozen felony charges stemming from his sexual relationship with a female student.

Dominic Leon Evans, 49, was arrested in November following a Riverside County sheriff's investigation that uncovered evidence that he had been engaging in sex with a minor.

Evans was charged with lewd acts on a child under 16, sodomizing a minor, possession of child pornography and other sex-related counts.

During a status conference today before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Becky Dugan, Evans pleaded guilty to all charges.

The defense made the plea directly to Dugan, without an objection from the District Attorney's Office.

[ Pala Mesa Resort ] for Feb. 13 and left Evans' bail set at $50,000. He is being held at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

Dugan indicated a sentence of six years in prison would be imposed. Had he been convicted by a jury, Evans could have faced more than 50 years behind bars.

According to a criminal complaint, between January and July 2012, Evans engaged in a variety of sex acts with a girl, identified in court documents only as Jane Doe.

The locations of the meetings were not disclosed.

According to investigators, Evans worked as a volunteer coach for both the boys' and girls' basketball teams at Perris High School.

How long he acted in that capacity was not immediately known.
