John Force Racing makes historical move for 2013 season

John Force Racing (JFR), National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) most successful Funny Car team has announced a historic expansion that will give it a presence in the Top Fuel category for the first time in its 35 years of drag racing.

Drag racing icon John Force introduced his daughter Brittany as the newest addition to his driver lineup during a press conference at JFR corporate headquarters in Yorba Linda.  

Brittany Force, a graduate of Cal State Fullerton is the second youngest of John’s four daughters and has put her professional teaching career on hold while she learns the family business from the seat of a 330 mile-per-hour "rolling office." During pre-season testing she has already become the "Fastest Force" with a run of 3.85 seconds at 319 miles per hour powered by the potent FORD BOSS 500 nitro engine developed in collaboration between JFR and Ford Racing.

teacher may be the student in her rookie season for the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, it’s not without some prior experience. The 26-year-old Brittany is moving up to Top Fuel after five years in the Top Alcohol Dragster class.

The NHRA season opens with the Winternationals in Pomona Feb. 14-17 with JFR running just three Funny Cars instead of four as in past years but with the addition of Brittany and the new Top Fuel entry.

Brittany has several goals this year including getting her first win in Top Fuel as a rookie driver. She is following her sister Courtney who won "Rookie of the Year" title in 2012 piloting a JFR Funny Car sponsored by Traxxas to qualify for every race last year, got her first win at Seattle and made the "Countdown to the Championship."

Congrats to the entire JFR team on the addition of Brittany. Can't wait for the season to begin again as I have been a faithful follower for 15 years and will continue to keep the JFR spirit in me. Good luck to the entire team for the coming year. Go Brittany!!!!

There is only "ONE" engine in the NHRA Top Fuel classes, whether it be in the Funny Car or the Dragster.
It is called the NHRA Top Fuel Regulation Engine. This has been and continues to be mandated (read strictly enforced) by the NHRA.
The NHRA Top Fuel Regulation Engine platform (read base architecture) is the exclusive domain of the 1964, 426 Chrysler factory race HEMI®.
All of the engines running nitromethane fuel in the NHRA are closely scrutinized variants of the second generation Chrysler Hemi including John Force's Boss 500.

The Boss 500 conforms to the NHRA Top Fuel Regulation platform or it would not be allowed to compete. Force's engine was introduced during an NHRA engine development moratorium that has not been lifted.
To call that engine the Ford Boss 500 nitro engine is deliberately misleading. It does not matter how much Ford money has gone into the engine any more than it matters where it is produced. By way of appearances it is the Boss 500, however it is not a Ford. It is a poorly disguised, cosmetically altered, customized Chrysler style Hemi.
There are no Ford parts or Ford engineering in it. Even the supposedly Ford main bearings available from the Ford racing catalogue aren't Ford. They're MAHLE/Clevite.
The same bearings developed for use in the nitro Hemi.

All of John Force's wins in Top Fuel regardless of the body style on the car were powered by Chrysler type Hemi engines and that continues to this day.
To call the Boss 500 a "Ford" engine is an insult to the Chrysler engineers responsible for an architecture that Ford can only envy.

The most recent publication that addresses this directly is the April 2013 edition of Mopar Action Magazine. The article by Paul Stenquist runs from pages 66 thru 71.
If a Mopar magazine seems too biased for your enlightenment then I recommend that you go to page 62 of the February 2013 Popular Hotrodding Magazine.

Absolutely nothing in NHRA Top Fuel is Ford "powered" and hasn't been for decades. To believe otherwise is just poisonously and infectiously stupid.
To promote otherwise is fraud!
