Jelly Belly Week to invoke ‘spirit’

Friday, February 1st, 2013
Issue 05, Volume 17.

TEMECULA – On Tuesday, Feb. 5, a cadre of young volunteers, armed with staplers, print-outs of the Jelly Belly Week story and sample packets of the famous candy itself – as many as 6,500 of them – will be prepared for distribution in the Southwest County area.

By the next day, Wednesday, Feb. 6, at multiple locations throughout the area, the history-laden packets will be distributed, free, from more than a dozen locations. It happens to be President Ronald Reagan’s birthday.

Conceived and presented by Friends of Ronald Reagan Sports Park and with the assistance of students from Biola Youth Academics, using the facilities of Murrieta United Methodist Church, the sweets have been donated for the occasion by the Jelly Belly Company of Fairfield, CA. Week Story will be included with the package as well.

The print-outs will remind lucky recipients of the local fame past President Reagan gave the area in a speech before the U.S. Olympic Committee on March 3, 1983, when he praised the people of Temecula Valley specifically, among others, for their "typical American spirit."

In Temecula, visit the Civic Center, Temecula Valley Museum, Temecula Senior Center, Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce, Temecula Public Library, Grace Mellman Public Library, various shops in Old Town, and the Temecula Police Station.

In Murrieta, visit City Hall, the Senior Center, the Chamber of Commerce, the Murrieta Library, the Murrieta Police Station, and other surprise locations.

Information about Friends of Ronald Reagan SP and its Can-Do Club appear on the website www.RonaldReaganSportsPark.com.
