16 people evacuated in Lake Elsinore after gas leak

LAKE ELSINORE - Laborers sheared a gas line at a Lake Elsinore apartment building, and firefighters evacuated 16 people but no one was hurt, a utility spokeswoman said today.

The laborers pulled a wall footing Saturday at the four-unit complex in the 30500 block of Adams Avenue and ripped out a chunk of the three-quarter inch pipe, causing natural gas to leak out, Southern California Gas Co. spokeswoman Trisha Muse said.

The accident was reported at 4:23 p.m. A utility work crew repaired the damaged gas line by 8:15 p.m., Muse said.
