Cardiac arrest save rate in Murrieta exceeds national average; CPR session planned for Valentine’s Day

Friday, February 8th, 2013
Issue 06, Volume 17.

MURRIETA – Last year’s emergency medical services response information has been compiled and the results have shown that return of spontaneous circulation after a person’s heart has stopped is over four times the national average. This 32 percent return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) rate means that a person in Murrieta has a 1 in 3 chance of having their pulse come back after complete cardiac arrest where nationally, that same statistic is an estimated 7 percent.

The Murrieta Fire Department has made a commitment to providing outstanding emergency medical services by creating a response plan that includes many parts. The first part of the plan requires an immediate response through rapid dispatch of strategically located medical crews on fire engines.

performing advanced medicine have also contributed to the success. The public has been involved and provided CPR prior to arrival in some cases thus giving their fellow citizen a better chance to live.

The Murrieta Fire Department would like to improve on the save rate in Murrieta and has planned a free CPR training session on Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Fire Station #2 located at 40060

California Oaks Road.

The "Sidewalk CPR" training will train members of the community to provide a new form of CPR that requires only compressing a victim’s chest in cardiac arrest. This life saving training will take approximately 10 minutes. Bring your precious loved one on Valentine’s Day and give them the best present you can, compliments of well-trained personnel.
