The "Den" was packed and the fans were howling as Great Oak Wolfpack boys varsity basketball team won their first League Championship in the school’s nine-year history by downing the Murrieta Mesa Rams 72-51.

Inside domination by Justin Sadler (23 points, 11 rebounds, 4 blocked shots) and Patrick Sniff (12 points, 15 rebounds) and outstanding guard play by sophomore Latrelle Franklin (14 points and seven assists) were just too much for the Rams.

Khalil Sharpe led the Rams with 14 points and nine rebounds; Shane Staton added 11 points. A win by the Rams would have given them a share of the league title with a 7-3 record; however, they had beaten the Wolfpack in the first round of league play 58-55.

Murrieta Mesa (6-4, 16-11) is in the Division 3AAA playoffs, and faced #7-seed Palm Springs, Desert Valley League Champion, on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Great Oak (8-2, 17-8) will host #11 Foothill, Century League runner-up, on Friday, Feb. 15.
