Temecula Woman Wins Second Title in Cycling's World Championship

TEMECULA - Sarah Hammer of Temecula won the women's omnium today at the 2013 UCI Track World Championships in Minsk, Belarus, her second title in the competition.

Hammer led entering the final day of competition in the two-day, six- race event. She won the individual pursuit, finished fourth in the scratch race and was sixth in the 500-meter time trial, ending up with 20 points.

Annette Edmondson was third with 26.

In each event, the winner receives one point, the second-place rider receives two points and so forth. The rider with the lowest total score is the winner.

This was Hammer's first world championship in the omnium. She finished second in 2011 and third in 2012.

Hammer began the omnium Saturday by finishing fourth in the flying lap, second in the elimination race and third in the points race.

Hammer won the women's individual pursuit Wednesday.
