RIVERSIDE - A woman accused of breaking into an 80-year-old Riverside woman's mobile home and beating and stabbing her, then burglarizing several neighboring residences and stabbing a dog, was charged today with attempted murder and other felonies.

Shannon Lynn Jones, 25, of Bishop was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly victimizing residents of the Meadows Mobile Home Park at 4000 Pierce St., in Riverside's La Sierra quarter.

Along with the attempted murder count, Jones is charged with aggravated mayhem, robbery, carjacking, reckless driving, cruelty to animals and four counts of burglary.

The defendant, who is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail, was slated to make her initial court appearance this afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Monday, Jones allegedly broke into three properties at the Meadows. She is suspected of forcing her way into a trailer occupied by Advertisement

an 80-year-old woman, who was severely beaten and stabbed multiple times, said Sgt. David Amador.

He alleged that Jones also broke into a nearby trailer and stabbed a couple's dog before retreating and burglarizing a storage shed attached to another mobile home.

Jones allegedly stole the 80-year-old victim's 1995 Toyota Camry after trying unsuccessfully to break into a car at an adjacent property.

The elderly woman was discovered by neighbors, who called 911. The victim, who remains hospitalized, is listed in stable condition, authorities said.

Police agencies throughout Southern California began looking for the stolen car, and around 2 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement officers with the Inland Regional Apprehension Team located the vehicle and Jones in Wildomar.

According to Amador, the defendant attempted to flee, triggering a brief chase during which she crashed the Camry and took off on foot. She was quickly located and arrested without a struggle, Amador said.
