TEMECULA - A parolee who allegedly drove a pickup truck into a sheriff's deputy on a motorcycle, then tried to ram another deputy when who attempted to come to his partner's aid, was being held without bail today at the Southwest Detention Center in Murrieta.

Rudy Modesto Carrillo, 43, of Temecula was booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer, auto theft and parole violations.

According to Riverside County sheriff's officials, two motorcycle officers on traffic patrol shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday spotted a GMC pickup truck going south on Pechanga Parkway, near Pechanga Place, at an excessive speed, prompting one of the deputies to attempt to stop the driver to issue him a citation.

The suspect initially pulled over, and the deputy got off his bike to approach, but the driver immediately sped away, sheriff's officials Advertisement

said. The deputy jumped back on his bike to pursue the motorist, who made a U-turn and allegedly aimed the pickup at the deputy, clipping his motorcycle as the two passed.

The deputy on the other motorcycle witnessed the assault and raced toward the scene, but was forced to veer off the roadway when the suspect allegedly sped toward him, causing his bike to hit a road sign and fence, according to the sheriff's department.

The pickup truck vanished from sight as the two deputies recovered. Neither required hospitalization.

Information on the vehicle and suspect was broadcast to law enforcement agencies throughout the region, and Murrieta police officers matched the details to Carrillo, who was arrested about 5 p.m. He had been arrested without incident in that city on an outstanding warrant alleging parole violations, sheriff's officials said.

Anybody who would intentionally aim their vehicle at a police officer (or anybody else) should be sentenced to hard time in prison.

Thankfully, both police officers escaped without serious injuries.
