Translate this page Weather disrupts eagle counts in San Bernardino, San Jacinto mountainsFriday, March 8th, 2013 Issue 10, Volume 17.
Snow and road conditions forced rangers to forgo eagle tallies at Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead, Lake Gregory and Lake Hemet. However, the census is still on for 8 a.m. Saturday at Lake Perris and Silverwood Lake. The Forest Service requested that Riverside County volunteers join them at the Lake Perris Regional Indian Museum, 17801 Lake Perris Drive. San Bernardino County volunteers were asked to rendezvous with rangers at the Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area Visitor Center, located just off state Route 138. Advertisement No prior experience is needed, just warm clothes, a pair of binoculars and an hour to spare for each count, according to agency spokesman John Miller. He said children and groups are welcome to take part. Each eagle count will be preceded by a brief orientation. Eagles generally nest in the lakeside areas from late November to early April, according to the USFS. Tomorrow will close the 35th winter census in the Inland Empire. The counts began on the weekend of Dec. 15. Anyone interested in volunteering for the eagle count at Lake Perris can call (951) 940-5600 for more information. The coordinator for the Silverwood Lake count can be reached at (760) 389-2303. 1 comments
